Kate Thompson is an editorial and commercial photographer based in Richmond, Virginia. Whether it’s a headshot session or an editorial assignment, she takes pride in being a big picture thinker and brings empathy, thoughtfulness, and a touch of humor to projects large and small.

Kate wandered a circuitous path to photography. She earned a Bachelor’s in Spanish from UVA followed by a Master’s in Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology from Columbia University, ultimately using her linguistic education as a springboard back into asking questions of the world through the visual language of photography.

Kate’s work has been published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Bloomberg Businessweek, Forbes, NPR, Virginia Public Media, Travel + Leisure, Food + Wine, and Garden & Gun, and has worked with clients such as Google, Hyatt, Hilton, Auberge Resorts, Compass Real Estate, Destination Hotels, Blue Bottle Coffee, Apartment Therapy, - and many others.
